The Yankee Air Museum provides unique historical and educational experiences through aviation, military, and home-front history, such as local history focused on the Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant. Explore the many exhibits within the museum, as well as a vast static aircraft collection ranging from World War I to the Vietnam era.
Things to See!
World War I Exhibit featuring the SPAD XIII
This exhibit features a WWI era fighter aircraft, the SPAD XIII. This aircraft was built entirely by hand over the course of several years by a dedicated crew of volunteers.
Willow Run/Rosie the Riveter Exhibit
Focuses on the Ford Willow Run B-24 Bomber Plant and the significant contributions of “Rosie the Riveter’s” to the war effort. Learn how a B-24 was built and how both men and women helped win World War II for the United States in various ways.
Come see our many exhibits and displays relating to WWII – Norden and Sperry bombsights, a B-24 cockpit and top turret, a B-24 instrument panel, a Link Trainer, an Army Half-Track vehicle, and exhibits relating to the Tuskegee Airmen and the WASPs (Women Air Service Pilots).
The Vietnam War Exhibit
This exhibit is focused on the Vietnam War and highlights two of our main Vietnam-era aircraft, the F-4C Phantom II (restored to a new paint scheme), and a UH-ID Huey helicopter.
Five Simple Machines In Aviation
This exhibit allows visitors the chance to explore how the Five Simple Machines, such as the lever, pulley, and wheel, can operate in a complex machine such as an airplane. The O-2 Skymaster is the example aircraft used in this exhibit.
Ever wonder what it takes to fly an aircraft? Come sit in the pilot’s seat of a KC-135 and see all the instruments that a pilot has to use on the job.
Dedicated space in our working museum where volunteers have the opportunity to restore static historic aircraft. The current project is the TG-3A Glider Restoration. Check out our volunteer page to see how you can get involved!
This is a hands-on area for children of all ages! Try your hand at building different creations with the Imagination Playground foam blocks and see what you can create! Learn about magnetism and how they attract or repel other items with our Magformers magnetic toys. See what interesting designs you can make with the different magnet shapes. Try your hand at being an aircraft artist with our art stations, where children can design their own airplane and nose art!
