Yankee Air Museum Education Packages:

Education Programs:
- Field Trips of the Museum can be scheduled for any age group, pre-school through senior citizens. We can accommodate many
different sized groups as well, including school groups, scout groups, clubs, and organizations. Tours of the Museum include
a movie in our aviation-themed movie room and last between 1-2 hours. The movie titles and descriptions are listed below and
can be chosen upon time of booking.

- Heritage Field Trip - Tiger Cubs will learn about your Heritage by visiting the Yankee Air Museum.
Find out how the assembly line works, why it was so important and how children contributed to the war effort.
- Heritage Belt Loop – Scouts will learn about your family heritage by creating family trees, explore how museums
use archival documents when researching and creating exhibits, take a Museum tour and fly in our Education Simulator.
- Aviation Merit Badge - Scouts will explore various careers in aviation, take a Museum tour, learn about the forces of
flight and how they affect aircraft, explain how an aircraft instrument panel works and fly a mission on our Education Simulator.
- Space Merit Badge - Scouts will learn about the history behind space exploration, design and engineer their own space exploration
ideas, build a space station using Legos, be able to explain the operation of rocket engines, satellites, and aerospace technology,
explore careers in STEM and take a Museum tour
- Listening to the Past (Try-It) - Hear stories from the past and discover the roles of women during World War II,
from flying bombers to working in the manufacturing plants.
- (All Badges offered by the Yankee Air Museum are through the “Make Your Own” Badge Program)
- Women's Stories Badge - Explore our Tribute to the Women of the Arsenal of Democracy Exhibit, read about various
women during WWII, and learn what characteristics made them successful. Create your own display of contemporary
role models to compare and contrast, make a family tree about women in your own family, and create a skit about
a famous moment in history.
- Aerospace Badge - Explore various careers in the aerospace industry, discover more about NASA, and learn about the women
who made up the Mercury 13 as well as current female astronauts. Students also get to take a flight in our state of the art simulator.
- Aviation Merit Badge - Scouts will explore various careers in aviation, take a Museum tour, learn about the forces of flight and
how they affect aircraft, explain how an aircraft instrument panel works and fly a mission on our Education Simulator.

Higher Altitude Summer Institute
- We offer two exciting weeklong programs focused on aviation. The first is geared towards students entering 3rd to 5th
grades the second is for students entering 6th to 8th grade. The Institute runs two half-day programs, a Morning session
and an Afternoon session, as well as a full-day program. Students may choose to register for either half-day or full-day

- We offer after-school programs and clubs designed specifically for various latch key programs. If you are a school interested
in providing an enriching activity for your students please contact us. Currently we are teaching the exciting "Flight Club"
classes at various schools in southeast Michigan.
- A hands-on presentation about World War II, the Willow Run Bomber Plant, life at home during the war, and how children helped.
Paper airplanes will be constructed.

Don Burke 2013 Scholarship Application ($1,000.00) Deadline May 17, 2013
Submitting your application
The amount of this year’s scholarship is $1,000.00. Students must have completed at least one semester of
schooling at MIAT and have a GPA equivalent to or better than 92%.
Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified and will not be considered.
Please submit the following to be considered for the scholarship:
- Completed application form.
- Personal Essay.
- Two letters of recommendation – one from an instructor and one from a professional.
- A copy of your most recent MIAT transcript.

John Alden Clark and Marie Mountain Clark Scholarship Application ($1,500.00) Deadline May 17, 2013
Dr. John Clark established the John Alden Clark and Marie Mountain Clark Scholarship to help students interested in aviation, math, and
science afford the cost of higher education.
Scholarship Criteria:
- Student must be a full time high school student in their senior year of secondary education (public, private or home school).
- Student must be in good standing at their current high school and have minimum of a 2.5 GPA on a 4 point scale.
- Student must be accepted by a degree granting institution in Michigan (Michigan public and private institutions, trade schools, vocational schools, community colleges).
- Student must be pursuing a major in math, science, physics, engineering, technology, aviation or aeronautics.
- Student must be a U.S. and Michigan resident.
- Student must submit two letters of recommendation.
- One teacher recommendation.
- One professional recommendation (work, volunteer activity, etc.)
- Student must be enrolled full time at the institute of higher education.
The amount of this year’s scholarship is $1,500.00. Students must have a GPA of 2.5 or above to be considered. Students not
pursuing a major in the required fields will not be considered.
Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified and will not be considered.
Please submit the following to be considered for the scholarship:
- Completed application form.
- Personal Essay.
- Two letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from a professional.
- A copy of high school transcript and proof of enrollment at a degree granting institution.

Don and Yvonne Harner 2013 Scholarship Application ($1,000.00) Deadline May 17, 2013
The amount of this year’s scholarship is $1,000.00. Students must have a GPA of 3.0 or above to be considered. Preference is
given to students who are majoring in the following fields of study: Aviation, Aerospace, non-health care related fields of Science,
Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Incomplete applications will automatically be disqualified and will not be considered.
Please submit the following to be considered for the scholarship:
- Completed application form.
- Personal Essay.
- Two letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from a professional.
- A copy of your most current high school transcript.
